Vacations as the Family Historian

We just wrapped up our annual trip to New York, which includes trips to see both my family and my in-laws on two really gorgeous lakes. I always find the change of scenery from our everyday so inspiring as a photographer that I often have to remind myself to balance being mom and being “photographer mom” or the “paparazzi” as my husband jokes. I try to live in the moment as best as I can while also having my camera handy to capture those moments that I want to preserve for my kids.

This year was our first summer at the lake where both kids no longer nap, and boy I just couldn’t keep up with anything, especially editing my photos, without those precious napping hours to get a little uninterrupted time. So this year I sat down to my computer once we arrived back home to edit somewhere around 500 photos (and those were my “keepers”). I slogged my way through them this last week, because as the self-elected family historian, I want those photos ready for our annual photo books. Here are a few of my favorites.
